Red Hot Gnomes

It is hotter than blue blazes in Texas. The grass is burnt to a crisp and the ground has large cracks in it. The fence posts are loose in the ground, and we are all watering our foundations. Yes, you read that right. Texans water their foundations to keep them from cracking when the ground gets so dry.

Naturally, outdoor activities are relegated to the very early morning or late at night. I feel sorry for those that must work in these temperatures. Each day I am grateful that my job keeps me inside in the air conditioning. So, what have I been doing to keep the cabin fever at bay? Glad you asked. I have been designing for fall and winter craft shows.

Hobby Lobby isn’t the only one fast forwarding to the holidays. This past week, pinecone gnomes for fall and Christmas took shape on my dining room table. There was fur, pinecones, fall leaves, beards, and jingle bells galore. Last year when I hauled home trash bags full of pinecones, my husband asked, “Exactly how many pinecones does one person need?”. “You can never have enough,” I said. He is starting to see that there is method to my madness. However, it won’t stop him from asking the same question the next time I bring something unusual home. LOL

Up to now, I never liked gnomes. I thought it was a little weird to have a small person with no eyes, an oversized “dunce cap”, and a crazy white beard sitting all over the house. However, they have grown on me. Once I started making them, I couldn’t stop. Good thing I have a giant bag of pinecones in the shed. Right? There is something so happy about them even though you can’t see a smile on their face. I am sure under the beard, they are smiling.

The website is still transforming, but you can see that I now have custom services and a store that is slowing filling up with new fall and Christmas items to purchase. Because everything is handmade right here in the good ol’ USA, no two items are exactly alike. Better get your favs before they are gone.
