Your wedding day takes months to prepare for including dress shopping, florist, music, food, and venue. Don’t forget the photographer. A good one is priceless. On your big day, you will be focused on making sure that your gown/suit is just right, your hair is all in place, and your makeup looks just right. You might be worried about forgetting your vows or tripping up the stairs. The details are forgotten later when you look back on your big day. You might wonder was Uncle Louis there or did he miss the big day? What color was mom’s dress and did the corsage clash like cousin Sue said that it had? What did we look like as we said our vows? What did my husband’s face look like the first time he saw me?
A good photographer will catch all the moments at your wedding. She will look for the candid moments and capture the “staged” moments too.
Shelby Forbus is one such photographer. Recently, I had the chance to watch her in action. She was all business at the wedding we both attended. She was constantly watching the bride and groom while not taking away from their big moment. Additionally, she was watching the guests so that she could catch some candid moments. She adapted well to changes in the schedule.
This bride elected not to have her groom see her before the wedding. Therefore, all the pictures before the wedding did not include any with the bride and groom. Shelby moved efficiently through all the pictures including pictures in several different locations around the venue. She finished with plenty of time leftover for the bride and groom to be sequestered again before the guests started arriving.
During the reception, the doors were thrown open to the let in the cooler night air. She adapted well to the change and included some stunning pictures of the bride and groom under the outdoor string of lights. One of my favorite shots was from the outside of the barn looking back in to the couple dancing as if they were the only ones in the world.
After the wedding, she edits the photos quickly and gets them back in digital form to the bride and groom. This is quite the switch from 30 years ago when I was married when it wasn’t uncommon to wait several months to get pictures back.
The ceremony part of this wedding was “unplugged.” I highly recommend this. That way Uncle Louis doesn’t whip out his iPhone and stick it right out in front of the photographer. Yes, that does actually happen and it ruins good professional shots. There will be plenty of time for pictures after the wedding. Your guests can grab selfies and extra shots on their phones after the ceremony is over.
Shelby focuses her business mostly on the East Texas area. Check out her website: Redeemed and Loved to see some of her best work. I liked Shelby so much that we asked her to shoot my daughter’s wedding. I am happy to say, she said yes!
